Boat of Garten

I slept very well and had a fantastic and comfortable night at Jessie Mac´s Guest House based in the village of Birnam in Perthshire. After a quick but full Scottish breakfast, I started my day with a very spontaneous but absolutely tremendous round at Kingussie GC. After, I headed over to my major goal of the day. I have followed Boat of Garten with strong interest on Twitter and was more than curious about this beauty. I arrived there around 2pm. The daylight was just perfect for a round of golf and some great pictures of the course.

Well, my first impressions at the pro shop, already super friendly! I talked to the Pro and he gave me some information about the course and how to play it. I wasn´t sure if I could transform his advices but anyhow, the first tee an amazing par3, hole No. 2 an amazing par4 and hole No. 3 an even better par3….

I could write this 18 times because every hole of Boat of Garten is just breathtaking. The whole setting of the course is unbelievable. From many tees you have a very nice panoramic view over this amazing part of Scotland. Together with all the brightly colored autumn trees during this time of the year, Boat of Garten looked like a great painting. The course itself is a divine tester.

Yes, it´s more than beautiful but the many ups and downs, the bizarre bumpy fairways combined with the very fast and firm greens, all these features can easily ruin your score! Usually I have two possible moods when I´m on the golf course. Either I love it or totally love it.

Now I need to create a new one! I absolutely, totally love it. My favorite hole and therefore my goodsundays.com signature hole is No. 13 called „Tulloch“. With 473 yards from the white tees the last par5 of „The Boat“. The landing zone for your drive is huge and it’s better to use it because you need a damn long lay-up shot over the brow of the hill.

But if you succeed, you will be rewarded with a short approach into a very firm green. Well, still take care of the bunkers and the slope to the right of the green. I had a issue with this beauty and walked of the green with double bogey.

But anyway, Boat of Garten is from the first to the 18th green pure testing fun. An absolutely must for every golfer who is around Scotland. I also need to play this great course again in late summer, when everything is dry and the course is even more difficult to play. So give it a try, you will definitely totally fall in love with this pearl.

After this fascinating and eventful day I was really excited about my overnight accommodation, luckily located nearby Boat of Garten named Fraoch Lodge. Dead tired and exhausted I fell into bed immediately after my arrival at this cosy place!
