In diesem Sommer hatte ich die Gelegenheit, den GC Thiergarten | Golf- und Land-Club Regensburg zu spielen. Zugegeben, es war nicht das erste Mal, dass ich diesen hervorragenden Golfplatz spielen konnte. Allerdings, und das fand ich besonders gut, war er in diesem Jahr in einem besonders gepflegtem Zustand. Im Grunde ist der Golf und Landclub Regensburg e.V. nicht nur ein Ort für passionierte Golfer, sondern auch ein Rückzugsort für Naturliebhaber. In der malerischen Umgebung von Regensburg gelegen, bietet der Club eine harmonische Verbindung von Sport, Natur und Gemeinschaft.

I had the opportunity to play the GC Thiergarten | Golf- und Land-Club Regensburg this summer. Admittedly, it wasn’t the first time I’d been able to play this outstanding golf course. However, and I thought that was particularly good, it was in particularly good shape this year. Basically, the Golf und Landclub Regensburg e.V. is not only a place for passionate golfers, but also a retreat for nature lovers. Situated in the picturesque surroundings of Regensburg, the club offers a harmonious combination of sport, nature and community.

Der Platz des Golf und Landclub Regensburg e.V. besticht durch seine gepflegten Fairways und anspruchsvollen Grüns, man spielt sozusagen auf einem grünen Teppich. Während meines Shootings hatte ich die Gelegenheit, mit dem neuen Head-Greenkeeper zu sprechen. Eine wirklich Top-Besetzung für einen so anspruchsvollen Golfplatz. Die abwechslungsreiche Landschaft sorgt nicht nur für ein einzigartiges Spielerlebnis, sondern auch für eine sehr entspannte Atmosphäre, da man auf allen 18 Löchern durch alten Baumbestand spielt. Dadurch eignet sich der Platz auch hervorragend für eine Golfrunde im Sommer. Der Golf- und Land-Club Regensburg verlangt Ihnen auch in Sachen Bewegung alles ab, denn die vielen Höhenunterschiede zwischen Abschlag und Grün machen das Spiel zu einem recht sportlichen Unterfangen.

The course of the Golf und Landclub Regensburg e.V. impresses with its manicured fairways and challenging greens, you play on a green carpet, so to speak. I had the opportunity to chat to the new head greenkeeper during my shoot. A really top appointment for such a challenging golf course. The varied landscape not only ensures a unique playing experience but also a very relaxing atmosphere as you play through old trees on all 18 holes. This also makes it a great course for a round of golf in summer. The Golf- und Land-Club Regensburg also demands everything from you in terms of exercise with its many height differences between tee and green, making it a rather sporty endeavour.

Ein weiterer wichtiger Aspekt des Regensburger Golf- und Landclubs ist sein Engagement für Nachhaltigkeit und Umweltschutz. Der Club setzt auf umweltfreundliche Praktiken, um die natürliche Schönheit der Umgebung zu erhalten und gleichzeitig ein hervorragendes Golfspiel zu bieten. Dies zeigt sich nicht nur in der Pflege des Platzes, sondern auch in der Sensibilisierung der Mitglieder und Gäste für ökologische Fragen.

Another important aspect of the Regensburg Golf and Country Club is its commitment to sustainability and environmental protection. The club is committed to environmentally friendly practices in order to preserve the natural beauty of the surroundings and at the same time provide an excellent game of golf. This is evident not only in the maintenance of the course, but also in the sensitisation of members and guests to ecological issues.

Was mir persönlich aus golferischer Sicht sehr gut gefallen hat, ist die tolle Gestaltung der einzelnen Löcher, die 1998 von Golfarchitekt Thomas Himmel an moderne Spielbedingungen angepasst wurde. Die 18 Löcher des Platzes wurden überarbeitet und den aktuellen Spieltaktiken angepasst.

What I personally liked very much from a golfer’s point of view is the great design of the individual holes, which was adapted to modern playing conditions in 1998 by golf architect Thomas Himmel. The 18 holes of the course were revised and adapted to current playing tactics.

Ein Loch, das mir besonders gut gefallen hat, war das 5. Loch, Par 5 mit 448 Metern von gelb. Das einzige, was hier wirklich hilft, ist ein sehr präziser Abschlag in die Mitte des Fairways. Die Landezone auf diesem Fairway ist recht schmal und liegt genau in der Kurve des Doglegs. Der zweite Schlag kann als einfacher Transportschlag gespielt werden, so dass man im besten Fall nur ein präzises Pitching-Wedge ins Grün hat, das durch einen umfangreichen Bunkerkomplex stark verteidigt wird. Das Grün ist groß, aber aufgrund der hervorragenden Qualität der Grüns empfiehlt es sich, so nah wie möglich an die Fahne zu kommen, um das Risiko eines 3-Putts zu minimieren. 

One hole that I particularly liked was the 5th, a yellow par 5 with 448 metres. The only thing that really helps here is a very precise tee shot from the centre of the fairway. The landing zone on this fairway is quite narrow and right in the curve of the dogleg. The second shot can be played as a simple transport shot so that in the best case you only have a precise pitching wedge into the green, which is heavily defended by a large bunker complex. The green is large but with the outstanding quality of the greens it is recommended to get as close to the flag as possible to minimise the risk of a 3 putt.
