Neben den 9 Spielbahnen trifft man auf Spaziergänger mit Hund und Radfahrer und es ist einfach ein Miteinander. Die Kiefernwälder bieten Heimat für eine vielfältige Pflanzen und Tierwelt, so haben sich ein paar Feldhasen und sämtliche Brutvögel,Fledermäuse und Insekten ihr zu Hause hier gesucht im Unterholz und sämtlichen Nistkästen, die der Golfclub für sie angebracht hat.

Family-friendly, close to the city, and a place to play golf together – that’s what makes this golf club so special in its unique setting. Golfers of all ages enjoy coming here, often by bike, to practise and play. Nestled between the former US barracks and the motorway lies the Golf Club Bamberg Hauptsmoorwald, a local recreational area for everyone. Alongside the nine holes, you’ll encounter dog walkers and cyclists, and there’s simply a sense of community. The pine forests are home to a diverse range of flora and fauna; a few hares and all manner of breeding birds, bats and insects have made their home here in the undergrowth and in all the nesting boxes the golf club has installed for them.

Ein lebendiger Platz, auf dem man schnell die Nebengeräusche der Autobahn ausblenden kann um sich voll und ganz auf das nicht ganz so einfache Spiel konzentrieren kann. Genauigkeit ist auf dem Platz gefragt, das Lesen der Natureinflüssen, Wind, Bodenbeshaffenheit und Bahnaufbau sind ihr die wichtigsten Begleiter um die 9 Bahnen so richtig genießen und feiern zu können. 

It is a lively course where you can quickly block out the background noise of the motorway and concentrate fully on the not-so-easy game. Accuracy is key on this course; reading the natural influences – wind, ground conditions and the layout of the fairways – are your most important allies for truly enjoying and celebrating the 9 holes. 

Der 9-Loch-Golfplatz zeichnet sich besonders durch seine schmalen Fairways aus. Er vermittelt ein fast britisches Flair, mit hohen Kiefernwäldern, die fast nahtlos vom Fairway – ohne erkennbares Rough – in die Bäume übergehen. Die Grüns sind gut gepflegt und es ist einfach, aus den Bunkern herauszuspielen. Loch 7, ein kurzes Par 4 mit einer Länge von nur 269 Metern, ist besonders spannend. Das Dogleg nach rechts mit seiner sanften Biegung bei etwa 180 Metern sollte mit einem Abschlag von mindestens 200 Metern eröffnet werden, um den richtigen Ausgangspunkt für einen Schlag aufs Grün zu gewährleisten. Von hier aus benötigt man je nach Spielstärke ein kurzes Eisen, um das Grün zu erreichen. Das relativ kleine Grün kann das Par zu einer Herausforderung machen, je nach Flaggenposition. 

The 9-hole golf course is particularly notable for its narrow fairways. It has an almost British feel to it, with tall pine forests that merge almost seamlessly from the fairway – with no discernible rough – into the trees. The greens are well maintained and it is easy to play out of the bunkers. Hole 7, a short par 4 measuring just 269 metres, is particularly exciting. The dogleg to the right, with its gentle bend at around 180 metres, should be opened with a drive of at least 200 metres to ensure the right starting point for a shot onto the green. From here, depending on your skill level, you’ll need a short iron to reach the green. The relatively small green can make par a challenge, depending on the flag position. 

Ein weiteres schönes Loch ist das kurze, aber knifflige Loch 4, ein Par 3 mit einer Länge von nur 124 Metern vom gelben Abschlag und 116 Metern vom roten. Drei kleine Bunker flankieren das Grün und lassen keinen Spielraum für Fehler. Auch hier ist das Par ein gutes Ergebnis. Man könnte so weitermachen und jedes Loch beschreiben, denn die neun Löcher im Golfclub Bamberg Hauptsmoorwald sind wirklich ein Vergnügen zu spielen. 

Another lovely hole is the short but tricky No. 4, a par 3 measuring just 124 metres from the yellow tees and 116 metres from the red. Three small bunkers line the green and leave no room for error. Here too, par is a good result. One could go on like this and describe every hole, as the nine holes at Golf Club Bamberg Hauptsmoorwald are truly a delight to play. 

Was man als Gast auf jeden Fall vorher in Erfahrung bringen sollte, ist der Anfahrtsweg zur Anlage, denn sie führt rund um das Kasernengelände durch ein Wohngebiet, Walnussweg 81 ist das Suchwort, um den Platz gut zu finden. 

Wenn man gerne in Franken als Golfer unterwegs ist, kann besonders hier in Bamberg einer UNESCO Weltkulturerbestadt, sehr viel Kultur, schöne kleine Gässchen, leckeres regionales Essen und ein Bierchen aus einer der vielen fränkischen Brauereien genießen. Sehr zu empfehlen, wenn man mal eine Wanderung unternehmen möchte, ist der Staffelberg, ca. 30 Minuten vom Golfplatz entfernt bei Bad Staffelstein, hier kann man den Tag inmitten schönster Landschaft den Tag mit einem Naturerlebnis ausklingen lassen.

One thing visitors should definitely find out in advance is how to get to the course, as the route winds its way around the barracks grounds through a residential area; ‘Walnussweg 81’ is the address to use to find the course easily. 

If you enjoy playing golf in Franconia, here in Bamberg – a UNESCO World Heritage city – you can particularly enjoy a wealth of culture, charming little alleyways, delicious regional food and a beer from one of the many Franconian breweries. Highly recommended if you fancy a hike is the Staffelberg, about 30 minutes from the golf course near Bad Staffelstein; here you can round off the day amidst beautiful countryside with a nature experience.
