Kaiserwinkl Golf Kössen
On my way back home from a location check for a shoot in Austria I felt like I have to golf, so I checked my favourite app called “Mein Golfclub” which is very useful in Germany and found a course not far away from the autobahn. Unfortunately my mobile ran out of power and I didn’t have any navigation anymore. This was a pity – but surprisingly I found another course on the way and I decided to play this one.
GC Kaiserwinkel is in Austria and very close to the German border. Arriving there it was clear soon that this course is a hidden gem. The nice and friendly office told me that it’s just possible to play the back nine. No problem, the main thing is golf. So I walked to the 10th tee, a par 3 with 153m from the yellow tee, which was very close to the office, and started my round.
The back nine meanders through the forest and is quite difficult to play if you’re not straight, and the greens are mostly protected well by bunkers like no.11, a long par 5 with 500m from the yellow tee. I just played a 3wood of the tee which made this dogleg left it quite long. The result was only a double bogey.
But it didn’t matter, I had some momentum and it should be the only one today. The layout of the back nine was interesting because of the following two holes which were also par 5s which meant three par 5s in a road.
The rest of the back nine, except of 18th, are mid length par 4s, not longer than 350m but always with the woods in play.
It was a nice day, no clouds and always with a beautiful view of the mountain. GC Kaiserwinkel was from tee to green totally in shape and I would love to play all 18 holes this summer.
